RotG - Bedtime Stories
Jul. 8th, 2013 11:38 pmTitle: Bedtime Stories
Wordcount: 233
Fandom: Rise of the Guardians, Guardians of Childhood
Rating: G
Warnings: slight spoilers
Summary: Nightlight asks Katherine for a story.
Notes: This is the first part in an eventual collection of drabbles or one-shots meant to explore the Katherine/Nightlight pairing. I saw someone suggest the pairing be called Bedtime Stories, and while I'm not a fan of ship names I really loved this one.
Nightlight sat on the floor beside Katherine’s big, comfy chair, listening with a dreamy smile on his face as she read from her storybook.
“And that was how the Princess Who Saved Herself met and befriended the Cyclops.” She closed the book with a smile and glanced down at Nightlight. “What did you think?”
The star child’s light brightened, and the feeling of I enjoyed it echoed in her mind as he floated up to his feet and took the book from her. “Thank you,” she said as he returned it to the immense bookshelf along her wall. He hesitated as he replaced the storybook, and then quietly took an older tome and returned to her side.
“Oh?” Katherine took the book, her smile fading as she read the title. “Nightlight, this isn’t…” She gnawed at her bottom lip as she turned through the pages of stars and constellations and planets. Finally she looked over at her friend, her expression drawn. “What if I say something wrong?”
Nightlight shook his head and placed a hand over hers. You won’t the feeling inside her mind said, and she nodded.
“Once upon a time,” she began, her voice soft and shaky but gaining confidence as she spoke, “there was a young boy who was a star.”
The spectral boy settled down beside her, his head resting against her arm as he listened to her story.
