"Ow!"

Lili hissed in pain and rubbed her toes against the back of her calf as Orlok quickly stepped back.

"Sorry, Lili!"

She reached for his shoulder and squeezed it reassuringly. "It's ok, I'm fine. Let's…take a break though?"

Orlok led her to her bed and Lili flopped down, trying very hard not to rub her toes as Orlok pulled the chair over to sit beside her.

"You're picking it up quickly," she offered with a smile, but he sighed. "Really, Orlok."

"But I keep stepping on your toes."

"You've never danced before, right?"

Orlok nodded. "It's not necessary for a disciple. And I never attended any parties or celebrations."

Lili leaned over and patted his knee, then blushed when he looked down at her hand. He wasn't wearing his glove, and his fingers were warm when he linked them with hers.

"W-well, I'm happy to teach you."

Orlok smiled shyly. "Then maybe I can help you with the next lesson with the kids."

Earlier that morning one of the children asked Lili to teach them to dance. She'd been all-too happy at the suggestion; Elena and her had taught the children back in Burlone. When she asked Orlok to help demonstrate, however, he'd confessed he didn't know how, either.

Though he really was a quick learner, they'd ended the morning session with Lili nursing a stomped foot and some of the bigger kids swarming Orlok in bids to help teach him, too. He'd fended them off with laughs, but as they helped wash up after lunch he apologized and asked if Lili couldn't give him an extra lesson later.

"I'd like that," she replied, then and now, the pain in her toes forgotten as she focused on the feel of his fingers locked with hers.

"I'm glad. I always want to spend time with you, Lili."

They'd grown closer in the months spent living at the Church, especially since their discussion out in the plaza when he thought she was treating him like a younger brother. Lili did her best to assure him of her feelings, and he had grown quick to show his; little touches, smiles, heated looks caught out of the corner of her eye. They made her heart race but embarrassed her at the same time.

Seeing his bright smile now, coupled with how easily he relayed his feelings, made her cheeks warm even more and her heart flutter. "Me, too." His thumb traced little circles along the back of her hand, and after a few moments she cleared her throat and stood. "Well, shall we continue?"

She led him slowly through the steps once more, humming a song as they did. Orlok's mouth was set in a firm line of concentration, his eyes hard as though preparing for a battle. With him so close all she could concentrate on was his scent, the heat of his body, the way his hair brushed against her cheek as she leaned her head against his shoulder.

"Lili?"

"Hmm?"

"You stopped humming." He slowed to a stop and rubbed his hand up and down her back. "Is everything okay?"

Lili's cheeks burned. "Yes, sorry. I just…" was thinking about you, she finished silently.

Orlok was quiet for a long moment. "Dancing with you feels really nice," he finally said, cheeks pink. "I like holding you."

Now her face really was burning. He said these things so easily… But she leaned in closer, shifting her hand from his shoulder to his back and gripping his vest with her fingers.

He sucked in a breath, then released her hand to wrap both arms around her waist and hug her. "Can we dance like this?"

Lili pressed her face into his shoulder, unable to stop the embarrassed smile pulling at her lips. "Not at an actual dance." She held him close and slowly led him in the dance steps they'd been practicing. "But I'm happy to dance like this with you."

Orlok rested his cheek against the top of her head as his hands traced lazy circles along her lower back. Her breasts were pressed tight against his chest, and she was sure he could feel her heart pounding.

"Hey, Lili?"

His voice surprised her. She'd lost herself again just listening to his breathing, surrounded by his scent and warmth as they swayed in a lazy circle in the middle of her room.

"Hmm?"

He nuzzled his cheek against her hair. "I love you."

She froze and he pulled away enough for her to see his shy smile and pink cheeks before he pressed his forehead against hers. Lili wrapped her arms around his neck to hug him tight, unable to hold back the warmth blooming in her chest.

"I love you, too." More than she could put into words. How long had she been completely at his mercy?

Orlok kissed her forehead and held her close, then suddenly spun them both in a quick circle. Lili's shocked gasp quickly turned into a laugh, which changed back to a gasp as they lost their balance and tumbled onto her bed.

"S-sorry!" His face was so close their noses nearly touched, lying side-by-side with their legs dangling off the side of the mattress.

"It's fine," she said, slightly breathless. "I'm a little dizzy, though." She sighed and closed her eyes, breaths evening out to match his. When his hand brushed her bangs from her cheek she leaned into his touch and smiled. "This is nice."

"Yes." She opened her eyes to find his mismatched ones studying her face and blushed. He caressed her cheek with his thumb. "Should we continue the lesson?" If she wasn't mistaken, he almost sounded disappointed.

"Hmmm, maybe we can just rest until dinner."

Orlok's smile sent her heart racing. His thumb stilled near her mouth, and he leaned in to kiss her.

"I like dancing with you," he said brightly, "but I like this, too."

Really, he said these things too easily. She had no defense against him, but she'd come to accept that.

"Me, too."
