He watches her. She knows without looking. Issun sleeps peacefully between her ears, more comfortable in this frozen land than he lets on, but she can’t rest so easily. She lies curled up, a paw over her nose to keep her warm, her eyes closed to slits.
He moves around and she remains still even when she hears him on the rocks above her. He is strange and violent but she senses no evil in him. She understands the need to protect what you love, but he is misguided at best.
After a moment she moves only a little and he hesitates before running off. She wonders if she’ll fight him again. The wolf she’s become rumbles happily at the thought—the thrill of the hunt is permanently ingrained in her now.
Issun stirs at the soft rumble and she wags her tail happily, if only slightly. With her companion awake they can continue.
She stands and shakes the snow off her white coat, only to pause at the half-hidden bone lying hidden in the snow. She looks around for her benefactor but the white of Kamui is undisturbed. Issun urges her to move, his words crass as usual, and she runs through the snow fast and free, the ground behind unblemished save for a small hollow in the shape of a bone.
